The „Campus Freie Darstellende Künste“ (Campus for Independent Performing Arts) by the Bundesverband Freie Darstellende Künste is a knowledge platform that gathers information on working in the independent performing arts.
Genesis and aim of the “Campus”
Gathering, communicating and preserving knowledge is the central aim of the “Campus Freie Darstellende Künste”.
The knowledge platform by the Bundesverband Freie Darstellende Künste (BFDK) was developed as part of the project “Background” and could be implemented thanks to the funding from the Beauftragte der Bundesregierung für Kultur und Medien. The “Campus’” aim is to sustainably secure the insights gained and the knowledge acquired in the course of this and other projects. The starting point were four workshops on the topics of law, taxes, artists’ social insurance fund and insurance, that took place in August and September 2021. Also as part of the BFDK project's “Fostering connections (Verbindungen fördern)” qualification program this platform will gradually be expanded to include further topics.
Knowing how
The “Campus” includes legal topics such as information on contract law, answers questions on different types of taxes, explains how the artists’ social insurance fund works and which insurances can be important for professionals in the independent performing arts.
This is both basic and expert knowledge that is made accessible to those working in the independent performing arts and all other interested parties. To ensure this, the information is provided in German, German plain language and in English.
German Association of Independent Performing Arts
The Bundesverband Freie Darstellende Künste (BFDK) is the umbrella organisation for the independent performing arts in Germany. From theatres to dance performance venues, collectives and individuals – the BFDK represents around 27,000 people working independently in dance and theatre all over Germany.
The BFDK campaigns at a federal level for sustainable improvement in working conditions and social security for those working in the independent performing arts. The BFDK promotes the further training, professionalisation and networking of its members and advises politicians, administrative offices and businesses. It is also involved in numerous associations and committees on a national and international level.
Its members include sixteen state associations and six associated organisations.
